Styling Tips & Wig Care

How To Measure Head Size For Wig?

To determine the right size wig for you, measure the circumference of your head from the front hairline, behind your ear, to the nape of your neck, to your other ear and then back to the front hairline. Jot down your measurement then consult the table below. Please note that sizes may vary slightly by brand.

Many wigs come in petite, average and large cap sizes. Average size wigs, however, tend to fit about 90-95% of customers. See wig size chart below, so you are able to determine the best cap size for you!

How To Correctly Apply A Hair Topper

Once you have your perfect hair topper you are ready to clip it in and strut your stuff!

  1. Open all the clips on the underside of the topper.
  2. Lightly tease your hair in the areas where the topper clips will attach to get a more secure hold.
  3. Place topper over the area of hair loss and secure the front clip.
  4. Place light pressure over the top of the hairpiece and run your fingers over the length of the base to secure the back clips.
  5. Keep the base pulled tightly across the top as you secure any remaining clips.
  6. Style and blend hair as desired.

How Do You Brush Your Hair With A Topper?

Use a paddle brush, not a fine-tooth comb. Always start brushing from the bottom of the hair and gently work your way up. Avoid combing the hair when it's wet as the knots can loosen over time. Store your piece on a mannequin head when it's not in use to help keep its shape.

How Do I Put On A Wig?

First time putting on a wig? We can help you put one on properly. You'll be a pro in no time. Follow these simple steps on applying your wig.

  1. Wigs should be worn on the natural hairline (for most people it is four finger-widths above the eyebrow).
  2. Remove wig from the plastic bag or box. Gently remove the protective hair net from your wig. Give your wig a few good shakes to separate the fibers and give some body to the hair. Some wigs need to be shaken to release the preset styling.
  3. Brush your hair off your face at the top and sides. If your hair is too long, you may want use bobby pins to help keep it off your face, back at the sides, and up at the nape. Some women use a wig liner or wig cap to keep their existing hair in place.
  4. Hold your wig at the sides with the woven label in back. Place it at your natural hairline and slide it on from front to back. Adjust the wig as needed so the front edge is just over your natural hairline. Use the ear tabs to center your wig from left to right. Adjust the Velcro tabs in the back if necessary for a more secure fit.
  5. Tuck in any stray hairs at the front, sides and nape. Now you're ready for styling!

How Long Does A Wig Last?

It will vary depending on how you treat your wig, how often you wear it and the kind of material it is made of. With proper care and maintenance your wig can last anywhere from 3 months to a few years. A typical synthetic wig will last between 3 to 6 months if worn daily and washed on a regular basis. Having 2 of the same wig and rotating between them is a good way to prolong the life of your wigs. Washing and styling your wig with the proper products will also help it last longer and keep it looking like new. Another way to make it last longer is to store your hair topper in a box when not in use.

How Do I Keep My Wig Fresh Longer?

To keep you wig fresh in between washes, we recommend wearing a clean wig cap each day. This will help prevent build-up in your wig.

How Should I Properly Store My Wig?

The best way to store a wig is on a wig stand. Storing a wig on a wig stand prevents the wig from becoming tangled, misshapen or dirty between uses. The wig stand will also help maintain the factory produced style and shape of your wig. Wigs should be stored in a cool dry place free of dust, mildew and high temperatures.

Washing Synthetic Fiber Hairpieces

Proper care of your hairpiece will keep it looking healthy and new for as long as possible. As a general guideline, you should wash your hairpiece every 10 to 15 wearings. Allowing styling products and dirt to accumulate will make your hairpiece dull and rough looking. Regular conditioning will keep your hairpiece shiny and protect it from damage.

Use shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for synthetic fiber. Regular shampoos are too harsh and can dry out the fiber, leaving you with a brittle hairpiece. Wig conditioners coat and protect synthetic fiber, leaving it shiny and preventing damage and color fading.

  1. Make sure your hairpiece is detangled. Use a wide tooth comb to get rid of any knots your hairpiece may have.
  2. Fill a sink or basin with cool water and mix in a capful or two of shampoo. Immerse your hairpiece and let it soak for 10 minutes.
  3. Gently swish the hairpiece back and forth, then rinse with cool water until all the shampoo is removed.
  4. Gently swish the hairpiece back and forth, then remove from water WITHOUT RINSING.
  5. Refill the sink or basin with cool water and mix in a capful or two of conditioner. Immerse your hairpiece and let it soak for two minutes.
  6. Gently blot with a towel until all excess water is gone. It's a good idea to spray your piece with a leave-in wig conditioner.
  7. Allow your hairpiece to air dry on a wig stand (a hairspray can can work in a pinch). You can hang add-on pieces on a hanger. DO NOT USE HEAT to dry your hairpiece. This will melt the fiber. DO NOT comb or brush the hairpiece until it is completely dry.
  8. When dry, gently shake your hairpiece, then style as usual.

How Do I Style My Heat-Friendly Wig?

To style heat friendly fibers, you must make sure that your heat tool is set to the correct temperature. The maximum temperature they should be at is 350 degrees Fahrenheit. If your heat tool does not have a temperature gauge, we recommend putting your settings on medium to low. To curl your hair, take 1" sections and curl around the barrel. Then slowly slide the fiber off the curling iron and pin the curl together. Once the fiber is cool to the touch remove the pin. To straighten, just simply slide the flat iron, slowly down 1" sections starting from the root to the tip.
